The Dietetic Internship is currently granted continuing accreditation by the

Credentialing Process

Graduates of this program will possess the knowledge and skills required of entry level Dietitians and be eligible to complete the registration exam administered by the Commission for Dietetic Registration to become Registered Dietitians. Admission and Computer Matching

Only graduate students enrolled in EKU's MS in Community Nutrition are eligible to apply for EKU's Dietetic Internship. Application for the internship is made during the final semester of coursework in the MS program. The EKU Dietetic Internship participates in the preselect admission process. In the preselection process, the program can select up to 16 graduate students per year who have met the admission requirements for the DI. Those who plan to participate in the preselect process must apply by Jan 15th for the August starting date.

If preselected, the Program Director will submit your name and social security number to D&D Digital Systems, Inc. to ensure that you will not participate in the April computer match. If you are not preselected through the computer matching process, you may apply to any other DI through the computer matching process. The Dietetic Internship at EKU has a single emphasis in Community Nutrition Programs.
Program Description, Mission, Goals & Outcomes

Requirements for application include:

  • Completed program application, available from EKU's Director of Dietetic Internship.
  • Three recommendation forms (Contact DI Director).
  • Official undergraduate & graduate transcripts.
  • Work experience within the previous two years.
  • Written letter of goals and objectives.
  • Verification form from CADE approved Didactic Program in Dietetics
  • Completion of or currently enrolled in last semester of graduate work.
  • Minimum grade of B in all graduate courses.


    Internship and University Calendar
  • The internship is two consecutive semesters. The intern registers for NFA 830 in the fall semester which includes approximately 18 weeks of clinical, management, and food service rotations. Then the intern registers for NFA 831 in the spring semester which includes 12 weeks of public health related rotations. The University calendar is available at http://www.eku.edu/compass/


    Program Completion Requirements
    Once all rotations are successfully completed, the intern must present a community intervention plan to the Graduate Committee. Each intern must complete an exit interview with the Program Director.


    Rotation Facilities

    Sites for the program include hospitals, long term care facilities, schools, colleges, dialysis centers, private consulting firms, food service facilities and public health agencies. Preceptor sites are located throughout Kentucky as well as many other states. The dietetic intern may be required to work outside of the area in which they live. Completion of the Dietetic Internship will take two semesters.

    Effie B. Creamer Scholarship

    This scholarship is presented to an outstanding graduate student in the Community Nutrition Program. The student should be finishing the classroom portion of the graduate program and be ready to begin the supervised experience component. A monetary award is given to one student prior to beginning the Dietetic Internship.

    Eligible students should submit an application for the Effie B. Creamer Scholarship along with their internship application.
