Apparel Design & Merchandising (B.S)

Design Studio and Testing Lab / Student Merchandising Displays/ Student Designs

This program prepares graduates to design, develop, evaluate and merchandise apparel to meet individual , family and community needs.

Students utilize design principles to create and evaluate apparel designs and textiles that are aesthetically pleasing and apply scientific knowledge to evaluate apparel and textile performance and quality. In order to understand the ways that dress and appearance express individual, family, and cultural values, especially about gender roles, students study human development and culture. They apply this knowledge of consumer behavior to develop and evaluate designs that are best suited to meet individual needs. Students also apply principles from economics and accounting to merchandising and product development.

While some graduates work in theatrical costume design or in museum curatorial work, most are employed in buying and merchandise management, visual merchandising, product development and design for large and small companies.
