Child and Family Studies (B.S.)
The Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development prepares individuals to teach or to administer early childhood programs in private, franchise, and corporate early care and education facilities such as Head Start, for-profit or non-profit day care/agencies, and family resource center or adult education child care. All students must meet the required minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and a "C" or better in major requirements before enrolling in the practicum, CDF 350. The Bachelor of Science degree in Family Studies prepares students for a wide variety of career opportunities in government, business, and community agencies. Students and professionals in Family Studies are dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals and families, and the community and environments in which they function. We learn life management and problem-solving skills to be responsible and productive individuals, family members, workers, and citizens. Courses in family studies are broad, varied, and interesting, and students have the opportunity to personalize their program according to their professional and personal goals. It's flexible, it's fun, it's FAMILY STUDIES! The Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education (IECE) certifies qualifying graduates to teach in preschool classrooms in public schools (3-5 years) and to work as a developmental interventionist (0-2 years). All students in this option must meet the requirements in effect at the time of consideration for admission to the teacher education program. The requirements of students enrolled in this program are to have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, with a "C" or better in major and minor course requirements, supporting course requirements, and teacher education requirements (EDF 103 and 203). All students must be admitted to the teacher education program at least one term prior to the semestr when they apply for student teaching as defined by the College of Education.
