General Dietetics (B.S.)

Accreditation
The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) is currently granted continuing accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 312-899-0040 ext. 5400.

Program Description
The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) at EKU leads to a B.S. in General Dietetics.  The program requires 120-121 credit hours, including 61 hours of General Education and supporting course requirements, and 59-60 hours of major course requirements.  The program is designed to be completed in eight semesters of full-time study.  Here is a Suggested Curriculum Guide

Credentialing Process
Graduates of this program will possess the knowledge and skills required for entry into a supervised practice program, or dietetic internship (DI).  All DPD graduates will receive a Verification Statement, required for application to a DI.  After completion of a DI, the graduate will be eligible to complete the registration exam administered by the Commission for Dietetic Registration to become Registered Dietitians (RD).
A listing of DI programs is available from the American Dietetic Association at http://www.eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada/hs.xsl/career_2191_ENU_HTML.htm.

Currently, there is a shortage of dietetic internship sites.  Thus, acceptance into an internship is competitive and is not guaranteed for any student completing the BS in General Dietetics.

Additional information on licensure of Dietitians in Kentucky is available at http://finance.ky.gov/ourcabinet/caboff/OAS/op/dietnut/
