The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences has established a new scholarship for outstanding students, and the official announcement was made on April 23, 2006. This scholarship has been named The Marva Ann Harris Spirit Award to honor a dedicated employee of EKU for over 30 years, and someone who most exemplifies the service requirements of the award.

In addition to academic qualifications, applicants must show evidence of a persistent commitment to civic engagement (e.g., community service, volunteerism, service to the university, mentorship of colleagues and dedication to EKU, FCS, and their program area of study).

Funding for this scholarship will be provided by colleagues, students, alumni, and others who wish to recognize and honor Family and Consumer Sciences Department faculty and staff through a donation to the fund. Such occasions can include but are not limited to: congratulatory recognition, thank you recognition, memorials in lieu of flowers and retirement recognition.
