Assistant/Associate Professor in Child Development

Educational Qualifications: Master’s Degree required; at least one degree in early childhood or related field. Degree(s) must be from a regionally (SACS, North Central, etc.) accredited or internationally recognized institution.

Ph.D. preferred. Doctorate required for tenure. Successful college teaching experience preferred.

Experience Qualifications: Evidence of successful experience teaching preprimary children, working with families, and curriculum planning for early childhood is required.

Desired Qualifications: Willingness to teach in a variety of distance formats is necessary for this position.

Candidates selected for interview must bring a portfolio, including a video of circle time with young children. Interviews include a lecture presented to college students.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate courses in early childhood development, curriculum and program planning for early childhood. Other responsibilities may include supervision of practicum students of student teachers, advising, serving on committees, professional service and scholarly activity.

Effective Date: August 15, 2008.

Salary & Rank: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

General Information: The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, College of Health Sciences, includes fourteen faculty and four staff positions. The Department operates the Burrier Child Development Center which is accredited by NAEYC. The Center serves 32 three-year-olds in two half day programs. Students in the Child and Family Studies Area may select from two degrees; Associate of Science in Early Childhood Development or Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies with three options (Family Studies, Child Development, or Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education; Certification Birth to Five).
